FAQs
Do I need planning permission for a BBQ cabin?
In most cases, planning permission isn’t required as our huts are classed as garden buildings. However, larger sizes or certain locations (e.g. conservation areas) may need approval, so we always recommend checking with your local planning authority.
How many people can fit inside each cabin?
Our cabins come in sizes from 4.5m² (ideal for 3–5 people) to 16.5m² (seating up to 21). We also offer extensions and corridor links for even larger accommodation options.
Can I sleep in the BBQ huts?
Our Scandi BBQ huts are specifically designed to be thermally efficient, and provide the necessary ventilation required to utilise your Scandi Hut for a variety of uses. All Scandi Huts above 7m² come with extendable benches for sleeping as standard and are great for any occasion.
Can I BBQ in my summerhouse?
Unless your summer house has been specifically designed to meet proper thermal and ventilation standards for indoor cooking, it is not suitable for BBQ use. Grilling inside could create serious health and safety risks, including fire hazards and smoke inhalation. By contrast, our Scandi BBQ huts are purpose-built with ventilation systems and smoke extractors, ensuring safe and enjoyable BBQ use indoors all-year round.
Are the cabins insulated for year-round use?
Yes! Every Scandi Hut is fully insulated, keeping you warm and cosy in winter and comfortably cool in summer. With 45mm thick walls and a 28mm insulated floor as standard, our cabins are built for true all-weather use. For those who want an extra layer of comfort, we also offer optional roof insulation for even greater heat retention (available at an additional cost).
What are the huts made from?
All of our cabins are handcrafted from sustainably sourced Scandinavian pine, chosen for its strength, natural beauty, and durability.
Do you deliver and install across the UK?
Yes — we provide free delivery and expert installation across the UK, so your new cabin is ready to enjoy without any hassle. Depending on your location, we also offer a complimentary site inspection (either in person or via video call) During this visit, we’ll advise whether any preparation such as a base, decking, or patio work is needed before installation.
Can the cabin be customised?
Absolutely! Every Scandi Hut is bespoke and built around your vision. You can choose from five different sizes, and add optional extensions or connecting corridors for even more flexibility. Customise the interior with finishing touches such as skylight or triangle dormer windows, or adapt the layout by removing the BBQ for open space, adjusting benches, or adding extra elements like shelves and flower boxes. Whatever your needs, your hut is made to your exact specifications.
Is the BBQ Hut worth the investment?
Yes – a BBQ hut is absolutely worth the investment. Designed for year-round use, they provide a versatile space that quickly becomes the centrepiece of your garden. Owners often use their huts several times a week, rain or shine, making them a practical and enjoyable addition.
Beyond personal use, BBQ huts are also highly versatile, they can add unique charm and value to holiday rentals or Airbnb listings, serve as an attractive feature for hospitality businesses, or simply offer a cosy retreat at home. Stylish, eye-catching and cosy, they create the perfect setting for entertaining, relaxing, or dining in comfort. Over time, their frequent use and wide range of applications ensure you’ll get excellent value for your investment.
What can I use a BBQ cabin for besides barbecuing?
Our huts are incredibly versatile — perfect as garden retreats, guest accommodation, outdoor dining lounges, party spaces, or even Airbnb rentals. Each comes with a BBQ and a fitted cover, so when you’re not cooking, the grill transforms into a practical table. Prefer a completely open layout? You can also choose to have your hut built without the BBQ, giving you a flexible space for any purpose you have in mind.
How quickly can my cabin be delivered and set up?
From the time you place your order, it typically takes around 4–6 weeks for production and delivery. Once on-site, installation is quick and efficient — usually completed within just 1–2 days from your agreed installation date by our expert and approved team.
How do I maintain my BBQ cabin?
We recommend treating the exterior wood twice in the first year and then once a year ensuring good ventilation to keep your hut looking and performing its best. During colder months, we suggest using your Scandi Hut at least once a week to maintain airflow and keep the timber in great shape.
Can I connect two huts together?
Yes! On request, we can design and build a corridor link between two huts, creating a larger multi-room accommodation or entertainment space. Please contact us to discuss.
